We are known world over for our curries and our embroideries. And when these two came together, a fusion of taste and grace was created. I am a big sucker for all things Indian with a western contemporary touch. I pretty much go awe on every sight of them with my mouth full wide open. With that Indian Graffiti on the wall of Baar Baar NYC, an Indian Gastro Bar, we were all in the mood of going Indian, in style.
Me, Vandana and Roma – all 3 divas in Voila!! by Roma Bhalla
And why because, we are in USA, and finding quality Indian clothes specially in New York or New Jersey at competitive prices is a struggle. I have often struggled at finding eloquent ensembles and have rejected them as they were yesteryear’s style even though my shopkeeper had convinced me that it is me who is out of date with what’s going on in there. But like all Indians, who visit India every 2-3 years, we know that’s not the case. It’s simply, we don’t have much choice. I would rather buy these, than those in the stores as the prices are comparable. Anyhow, watch our video from the event below:
So, I was excited to meet the Indian Designers at Spring Soiree 2019 in USA as not only I would know what’s up to date (…and not struggle with watching a Bollywood flick or fashion week and thinking are these styles even available at my reach) and meanwhile, I also would get to try some yummilicous Indian Clothes and accessories. Who wouldn’t want that?
1. Chikankari by Roma Bhalla: “I have come from Lucknow and we do hand embroidered Chikankari. What I do is amalgamation of other hand embroideries of Chikankari on pure fabrics. Chikankari is something which is worn by Bollywood stars as well these days and is too trendy. I have been doing this for past 15 years, and I started with my first exhibition in Dubai and that came I was carrying just 8 pieces and got amazing response. I wanted to know more about my art and my city and went global with it,” says Roma. Some of my favorite pieces from her collection are:
2. Embroidered Jumpsuit & Chikankari Bomber Jacket by Priya Chhabria “I just bought my latest collection from Lakme Fashion Week. Lots of our clothes are easy to wear and are stylish. Pastels, White and Gold are my favorite. I have been doing it for last 16 years and I am not bored of it. My forte is beading very subtle and subdued. When I make a outfit, is what I wear. If I am not going to wear it, I am not going to make it,” says Priya. Some of my favorite pieces from her collection are:
3. Soft Flowing Silhouettes by Karishma Jamwal’s Lotus Sutr: I like the fact that her ensembles were very loosely structured and soft flowing giving it a dreamy drape effect in vibrant shades. Perfect for those days, where comfort and style both is in our mind. Some of my favorite pieces from her collection were:
4. Polki by Reemat Designs: “We create and curate a unique line of handcrafted jewelry, this one is made of paper,” says Reena. Some of my favorites from her collection were:

5. Sheer Embroidery Top by House of Chic: A model who was modeling one of her clothes was looking ultra-chic is the sheer embroidered top with jeans. Isn’t it a great way to blend the casual with the extraordinary?
We will keep our Instagram (@theflyingcolors) updated to view our interview with some of the designers above. The event was held at Baar Baar Indian Fashion Restaurant in New York City on Apr 11, and is currently running on Apr 14 at Royal Albert Palace, New Jersey.
Some of my other favorite pieces by other designers were:
P.S: If you are in Baar Baar, do not forget to try the Kairi Mule, and if you are in Royal Albert Palace today, cherish and enjoy!
