I love wearing knit gloves because of the soft feel, comfort and breathability. However, the ones I have used so far, have not fared well in relatively extreme cold temperatures. Also, there are those days when you get an unanticipated rain and you regret the decision of not bringing your waterproof gloves along.
A solution I used till recently was wearing a soft and thin inner glove layer beneath a waterproof one. However, I just found a perfect alternative which I have been absolutely loving! Showers Pass, which makes some extremely popular waterproof clothing, has partnered with National Geographic to develop waterproof knit gloves!
The exterior in these gloves would feel like a regular knit glove. However, within this external layer, you would have a waterproof-breathable Artex membrane. Being microporous, this waterproof membrane allows the gloves to ventilate in order to decrease sweat accumulation. The 3rd and the innermost layer is an antibacterial Merino wool lining. To add it to it, the gloves come with a silicone print on the palm which amplifies the utility by offering great gripping ability even in wet conditions.
I have used the gloves in chilled morning cycling rides, for playing in snow during a winter storm 🙂 and also during a pour – and these have held extremely well. Also these gloves are quite compact and low profile which makes them a part of my backpack every day, even at work.
