Many heads would turn as you walk in the colorful piece of art on your leggings. It’s definitely very New York! I was floored by the compliments that I received throughout the retrospective as I was dressed from head to toe in wearable pieces of art by Philippe Valy.
The Philippe Valy Retrospective exhibition on 6th June at Trend Gallery in Montclair, NJ was a candy for my eyes and every visitor who came left with a smile. Philippe says, “ Tonight I am going to celebrate my 25 years in America. I am from south of France originally and I have done painting and designing my entire life”. In this video, we talk about how he started, what inspired him, the stories behind his art and his new venture on wearable art forms.
Why I liked them
-
- His work of art is colorful: Each painting of his has a story to tell on its own. Whether its crushed canned cans that are part of it or the bright colors from the sea of south or his love for women, his uninhibited paintings teases every nerve of imagination. Even Bill Clinton has one of his paintings! You would know more by watching the above video.
- It’s easy to grab attention with Valy’s Leggings: These leggings are definitely an attention grabber. Most often we find leggings that are either simple or sporty, leggings with aesthetic is not generally found.
- His leggings are flexible: I could very well choose them for my yoga leggings or my travel leggings. They are very flexible when it comes to body movements.
- Can be paired up with: I think the leggings would look great with a plain and simple crop top or a sexy bustier. Since there are colors already on the leggings, a match with a basic shades of top would work great! You can either pair the top with the jean jacket which is currently in or polka dotted tops which are trending. If you are not very tall or of average height like me, heels would accentuate the look and give it more length. If you can carry converse shoes with them, they will great too!
- His style is just not restricted to leggings: I liked how quirky his sense of style is. So whether its teaming up a hand-painted dress to wearable art leggings to pairing up with his designed eye wear, its all about art coming to life in many forms for me and you to wear.
We had quite a gala time at the celebration. There was a corner dedicated to delicious snacks. Phillipe cut the cake. We were in awe of the art form. The room also had treasured the moments of celebrities who had worn his styles in the form of black and white pictures. It was an ambiance of memories with potful of colors.
We had fashion designers, we had people like you and me, we had fashion journalists and reporters. There were bountiful of people appreciating the art. There is also a fashion show coming up on the 20th July featuring him. So have a look at his Facebook page at
I feel immensely proud to have modeled at the event along with another model. It was also that moment that made me realize that art is a free form and need no boundaries to express itself.
